I'm new to Body for Life, but not so much to fitness... Or more accurately, the study of fitness. I love reading about the stuff and applying what I learned into my gym routine as far as weight training goes (not so much cardio since, for some reason, my subconscious makes me avoid the treadmill after my initial 5-minute warm-up). I joined my first challenge in June, and at first I figured it would be easy to start, but then I realized something I'd never realized before:

My problem isn't eating too much (which is what I thought it was by default). It's eating far too little!

When I'm not thinking about it, I tend to completely skip breakfast, sometimes lunch too, and then think "Holy crap I'm STARVING! What's that all about!?" and then gorge myself at dinner on such wonderful things as hamburger helper or plates of spaghetti that could fit a whole fashion model inside!

I've been trying to follow the eating plan in the book. A portion of carbs, a portion of protien, easy right? No. The biggest block of all though, is that I have friends who really don't care that I'm trying to lose fat and gain muscle, and since I spend pretty much all my time with them, I tend to eat whatever they're eating for dinner, and it's never the best choices I could make... Nor is it ever just one portion...

I need inspiration and advice and stuff!

Hello everyone. I wanted to share my experiences in finding a plan to help me get back into shape. For years, I have been working out regularly--weights, swimming, and running. I had good workouts, but I never saw the positive results I was looking for. I still had the extra weight around the stomach, and I really wasn't adding any lean muscle mass.

Part of the problem was that I would leave the workouts completely exhausted. My day was pretty much through after exercising because I didn't have any energy to do anything else. I checked with doctors, and there wasn't any obvious reason for the exhaustion. Everything was technically fine with me.

Finally, about three months ago I discovered a juice high in anti-oxidants. I started taking the juice, and I am amazed at the results. I have extra energy. I am losing weight--and three inches around my waist so far. I am starting to build lean muscle mass. The juice--MonaVie--has such a high level of antioxidants that eliminate the free radicals in our body. I really believe that my problem was a high level of free radicals that kept me from getting into the shape I desired.

I am seeing the progress finally. I even have more energy to increase my workouts. I am close to seeing some definition in my abs now. I am so happy. MonaVie is made with the superfood acai berry, and you can find more information about it at http://www.mymonavie.com/kmac/

That's my story so far, and I hope to share more.

I would rather watch Oprah and eat some valentines candy but I just cannot go up one more size in pants. I can't afford the wardrobe! Anyway, I need the boot camp thing and I also need to know how to eat right every day. And if anyone says eat more fruits and veggies I am gonna punch you. I mean, who doesn't know that???? But, I need to eat real foods (those recipes for enchiladas sound great!) and I need to know when and how and all that. This is not quite an SOS but close! So the link and/or the greatest book title for this topic.
Happy New Year! Thanks so much!

I think this will help me stay on track. So.. Nice to meet you all, and make sure you give me hell about my committments!!!!!

Hey everybody... I had NO IDEA this tribe even existed, but I'm happy to have run into it now... I've been doing BFL for 7 weeks now and I've had some really great results...

When I started BFL, I was:
221 LBS
40" Waist

Right now I'm at:
205 LBS
36" Waist

My arms, chest and legs get harder and have more muscle to them every day... I can even sort of see the indent where my six-pack will be once I finish taking off the rest of my fat... There's no question in my mind that this program works...

I've read through a bunch of the posts on here and it seems there's a lot of discussion about people having trouble with the meals and expense, etc....

I'm a super-extra-picky eater, so the diet was a challenge for awhile there, but I've really sort of figured it out now.... I rely on shakes and protein bars for two of my meals a day.... I've become a HUGE FAN of cottage cheese and yogurt- it's easy to prepare and it tastes great... I've also been a cheese freak for most of my life and I've found that cottage cheese in general is a good substitute for regular cheese... I make cottage cheese enchiladas (with just one thin slice of jack in each one to help out with the texture) in whole wheat tortillas and they are nummas!

I've mastered the art of the triple egg-white with one yolk combo for anything that requires eggs (eggs and toaster nutrigrain waffles, breakfast burritos) and it all tastes great....

I guess what I'm trying to convey is that with some practice, experimentation and a little thinking outside of the box- you can do this program and still very much enjoy the food you're eating... And it doesn't have to be elaborate or break the bank to do it, either.......

I'll post my before and after photos once I've finished my 12 weeks, but I plan on sticking with this program long after that.... It's actually really become second-nature to me at this point and I don't ever feel deprived or hungry or like I'm on a "diet" and that ROCKS! :)

howdy y'all!

As you all know, I'm doing a fitness challenge through a local gym. I'm about 3wks into it, and seeing progress.

I've been tracking everything I put into my mouth - boy is that an interesting experience! My question has to do with what I should be taking in. The gym people who are sponsoring this say I should be taking in (at least) 1-1.5 gr Protein per lb of Lean Body Mass; 0.75 to 1 gm Carbs, and no more than 10% of my diet should come from fat.

My question is this: HUH?

I've done some calculations (I know that fat is 9 cal/gr, protein is 4, carbs is 4). This doesn't add up -- My BMR is about 1350 calories - these numbers don't add up to even close to that, and with working out 6 days a week, I KNOW I have to take in more than 1300 cal/day - more like at least 1700! (I am not a big person - 5'3, 130 lb, trying to lose about 10lb). They have me clocking in at 30% body fat, I think it's probably a lot less (impedance numbers seem high, and I've had a caliper test in the last year).

I'd love to hear what works for other people, in terms of protein/carb/fat balance. I'm struggling to get my fat percentage below 30% (it sounds like a lot, but I'm not taking in any more than about 50gr fat/ day), but am having no trouble with carbs or protein.

Or is this too detailed a question?

thanks!

My arms and shoulders are looking better, I am able to lift heavier weights. I need some work on my lower body. I just started not seeing any results about a month ago, and just never worked on my legs and such. My schedule has been difficult and has allowed me to go into the gym 4 or 5 times a week. Plus I changed my workout...I do chest and arms twice a week, and then back and shoulers twice a week. I hope to get the lower body in this week. And start getting it in twice a week.

Still eating great. Cheating once in a while. And I am no where ready to give up!

Corran says he uses Whey protien and creatine, Mike uses whey and mypoplex...So I spent a load of money on mypolex lite, HMB, and creatine. thats what Bill says he uses in his book. the problem i have with this body for life book, is that he light mentions things, and never goes into details. so i have to search for the right response on the net, and can't find it!

Creatine...well I read different opinions, some say to stay away some say its ok to use. Corran, when should I use this. And what does this due. I was thinking that I should use this right after my weight training workouts. Should I do it after my cardio workouts? In Bills book, he says he mixes creatine with his mycoplex shakes....but no details on that, so I don't know if thats a good idea.

Do you know anything about this HMB pill?

I have always tried to tell myself that I am going to work out, and get to where I want to be, but its applying it, is my problem. For one, six meals?.. Thats alot of cooking, and alot of food buying. Its not cheap to be healthy by the way it seems. BUT! That's where this room gomes into the whole situation. I'm sure many of you out there, have technique's and different style's of dieting, and great quick and easy recipe's that myself and others could benefit from, so come on in and share!

As for the challenge, it's april now, May 1st, I am starting. I'll post my pic each week, and give brief descriptions, maybe even upload my eating calendar and what I ate, as well as the exercise program I am doing at the time. If any of you see anything that might help, lemme know!.. Thanks!
Dinner: Its mostly Chicken/Salmon/Halibut/Tuna Steaks/Brown Rice/Beans/Spinach, etc. for the dinner's.

The midmeals are either food or shakes. An example would be an apple and two string cheeses thats a midmeal. Or a shake made from skim milk, chocolate non fat pudding with a small scoop of whey protein.

The lunches are chicken salads, etc.

The Breakfasts are whole oats w/ bananas, or cottage cheese and oranges.. Etc. nice quick and easy stuff.

I am not taking any crazy supplements, because I dont trust them. Except for...

Whey Protein (small amounts just to go into my shakes and brownies)

The desserts are fortified fudgescicles or yogurt and berries, small stuff nothing crazy..

Thats just an intro, I will be more detailed in further posts, of what exactly I ate.. Im trying to incorporate all this online for you guys, pictures, and charts, for the whole week. I havent started the whole deal yet, but its soon!
